AA Solar was engaged to supply a cost-effective off-grid solar system for a commercial orchard operation in Kerikeri, meeting the customer's need for reliable power to run their irrigation infrastructure. This project showcases expert commercial and industrial solar solutions tailored for New Zealand's agribusiness, delivered by accredited solar installers.
Project overview:
- Location: Kerikeri, New Zealand
- Customer: Horticultural Orchard
- System: Off-grid system
- Primary Reason for Installation: Deliver lower operating costs and energy independence.
The off-grid solar system designed for this client was significantly cheaper than having grid power installed at this location.
System Components Installed:
-
32 x 450W N-Type Bi-Facial Double Glass solar panels for enhanced sunlight harvesting
-
Deye Hybrid Inverter, 12kW, 3-phase, 48V, enabling seamless operation of irrigation pumps and equipment
-
Battery Storage: 4 x Deye LV Stack Battery Pack (51.2V, 100A, 5.12kWh each) for consistent, around-the-clock power
-
Dedicated Deye LV battery power distribution unit
-
Full DC and AC protection for system longevity and safety
-
ANTAI tin roof mounting system to withstand demanding orchard conditions
Functional Deliverables
The 3-phase Deye inverters are feeding 3.7kW 3-phase VSD-powered pumps for 3 to 6 hours per day. The decision to use inverters with batteries was made because the cost of bringing 3-phase power onto the site was prohibitive. The remaining power will be stored in batteries and used to provide temporary power to site sheds and breakrooms for the orchard workers.

Commercial and Industrial Solar Advantages
Investing in commercial and industrial solar allows New Zealand orchards and agri-businesses to reduce ongoing energy costsm lower their carbon footprint, and build resilience against rising utility prices, Off-grid solar systems, especially in rural and agricultural settings, shine whre mains grid power may be cost-prohibitive or unavailable. This installation highlights the importance of collaborating with accredited solar installers who can design and implement robust solutions tailored to demanding agricultural environments.

Outcome and Customer Benefits
- Consistent, robust power for irrigation - critical for orchard productivity during peak growing seasons.
- Significant cost savings compared to grid power over the system lifespan
- Reliability: independencs from grid outages and utility price hikes
- Sustainability: reduce emissions and support for New Zealand's renewable energy goals.
AA Solar's experience with commercial and industrial solar projects, including sophisticated off-grid systems, sets them apart as a trusted, accredited solar installer for the New Zealand horticulture sector.
