When is the best time to install solar panels?
Solar panels can be installed year-round, although we don't install them in the rain or during high winds for safety reasons. You will likely achieve the most energy savings when sunshine hours are the longest ie summer and early autumn. Installing a system before this time ensures you can make the most of the long sunny days.
How long do solar panels take to install?
Most residential systems are installed in one to two days. This process includes mounting, wiring, inverter and battery setup and testing.
Can I add a battery to my solar system later?
Absolutely. Many AA Solar customers start with panels and upgrade to battery storage when ready, letting you store daytime power for use at night and providing backup during outages. Batteries are now more affordable than ever, and can often be financed through Q Card or with a green energy loan.
Do I need council consent to install solar panels in 2025?
No, rooftop solar installed on existing homes does not require building consent. For new homes, councils must process consents for solar panels within 10 working days, ensuring quick approval and minimal hassle.
