The Challenge
Our Nelson-based client wanted to live year-round in a fully self-sufficient tiny home. Being completely off-grid, energy security was essential. The goal was a system that could run independently of the grid while maintaining the flexibility to connect if needed, and providing two full days of power without solar generation.
The Solution
AA Solar designed and installed a custom off-grid solar power system tailored to the client’s lifestyle and daily energy demands. The system included:
- 10 x 440W N-Type TopCon Black Frame Solar Panels
- 1 x Deye 5kW Hybrid Inverter
- 1 x Deye LV Battery Power Distribution Unit (IP65 rated)
- 2 x Deye LV Stack Battery Packs (51.2V)
The setup also integrated a backup generator connection to ensure reliability, providing extra peace of mind during extended cloudy periods.
The Outcome
The result is a robust, high-performing off-grid solar system suited for permanent living in New Zealand’s variable weather conditions. The customer now enjoys year-round energy independence, reduced reliance on fossil fuels, and confidence in continuous power regardless of the conditions.
